Vinculum – Luigi Coppola

The works of Vinculum, conceived for the public space of Castrignano Dei Greci, are paintings and drawings on canvas created specifically, inserting themselves as new icons inside the empty votive shrines of Palazzo De Gualtieris and the entire town, in a path that aims to make the plants iconic, the restorative gestures, the soils, the roots. After years of experimentation and research in the olive groves of Salento affected by Xylella fastidiosa virus, the artist tries to make visible the generative forces still present in the olive fields, given up in most cases for dead, and build a new bond (Vinculum), with the land, in which human beings take responsibility for the wicked choices regarding the expansion of monoculture, the impoverishment of the soil, the rejection of peasant life and the care of their ecosystems.
