MNEMOSCOPIO – Emilio Vavarella

MNEMOSCOPIO is an ephemeral site-specific public art installation designed for the area in Capo di Leuca.
It consists of an experimental viewer for XR (Cross Reality) through which the physical reality of the place where the work is installed overlaps and merges with a 3D memory map. This map was assembled on the basis of interviews, conducted on site, with those who had left the Capo di Leuca but then returned there.
MNEMOSCOPIO offers the possibility of making a virtual journey through many of moving memories, and continues Vavarella’s research on the relationship between memory and technology.
Presented for the first time in the same places where the videos were shot – the small port in front of the Hotel Terminal in Santa Maria di Leuca and the port of Tricase – it is there that the work fully assumes its aesthetic and conceptual status.

However, removed from its public dimension, the work will perform at the same time a conceptual function of documentation of the research process and as a catalyst of past and recent experiences.
