From Matera 2019 the Charter on Artistic Residences
Matera launches the Charter of Artistic Residences, the result of a joint work of institutions, associations and individuals, both national and international, gathered in the city of Sassi in recent days on the occasion of the symposium “Come & Seed – Cultivate new models of residence” promoted by the Foundation Matera Basilicata 2019 as part of the official program of Matera European Capital of Culture 2019.
The Matera Charter is the result of a path on the theme of artistic residencies initiated by the Foundation starting with the Public Notice Matera Basilicata Residences 2019, which has funded 9 projects candidates from operators in Lucania throughout the region. During the symposium, the representatives of this reality were invited to participate, together with other national and international realities, in a moment of presentation, dialogue, discussion, in-depth study on models and methods of management of housing projects in Basilicata, Italy and Europe.
The Matera Charter asks the Public and Private Institutions, and specifically the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Regions and Municipalities to implement all the measures in their possession to grant: the formal recognition of the value of the work of the residences and their impact in the field of training, education, territorial regeneration, engagement, on civil society by facilitating dialogue with universities and other public and private bodies; the formal recognition of artistic residences, taking as inspiration what has been done for the residences of entertainment through the conference between State and Regions that gave rise to Article 43 of the Ministerial Decree of 27 July 2017. Through the charter, the signatories also make concrete commitments on the issue of residences, such as the establishment of a consortium or a similar legal form, and make proposals to better exploit this tool.
The charter was signed by the informal group of organizers of artistic residencies present in Matera: experiences supported by Fondazione Matera Basilicata 2019 within the path of co-creation and specifically Plus Hub Pisticci, Supertramp, Terre Joniche Magna Grecia, Basilicata Link, Centro Carlo Levi, Coop.
