As part of the festival ‘STONE LANDSCAPES. New Stories for Mediterranean Quarries’ Ramdom presents Paesaggi di sottrazione. Storie di architetture e intrusioni umane di Landscapes of Subtraction. Stories of architectures and human intrusions from 16 April to 7 May, at the spaces of KORA- Centro del Contemporaneo.

“Stone landscapes. New stories for Mediterranean Quarries” is the winning project of the second edition of the Festival of Architecture, promoted by the General Directorate for Contemporary Creativity of the Ministry of Culture to support, promote and valorise contemporary Italian architecture through cultural events aimed at a wide audience.

The exhibitions included Paesaggi di sottrazione. Storie di architetture e intrusioni umane curated by Ramdom (Paolo Mele and Claudio Zecchi), which, addressing the theme of architecture, chooses stone as the protagonist of the three videos on display. The excavation, the cutting, its use offer us a landscape in continuous evolution, a landscape that is always new, a landscape of subtraction, the expression of a now very close relationship between the natural and the strongly man-made. Following this line, the exhibition is offered as an immersive journey through some of the most evocative spaces within the historical walls of Palazzo de Gualtieriis, the ancient oven, the stable and the cellar, which now houses KORA. Here the works are installed site-specific, based on the dialogue established between exhibition space and artists.

Three videos, three intimate portraits of stone or, more precisely, of stones, through the masterly gaze of three artists: Yuri Ancarani, Carlos Casas and Mariangela Ciccarello.

The project idea proposed by the Ecomuseo della Pietra di Cursi together with the Apulia Region’s Department of Tourism, Cultural Economy and Territorial Enhancement, with the support of Bari Polytechnic and the Municipalities of Apricena, Cursi and Trani, aims to promote a profound and articulate reflection on the identity features and the possibilities of enhancing the Apulian stone quarries’ territories.

“Architecture, industrial archaeology, landscape, contemporary art, open workshops, theatre, valorisation of territories: this ‘stone festival’ will allow communities to immerse themselves in different areas, to get to know the places, to dialogue with architects, artists and scholars – from different geographies – in the quarries and other special and unexpected contexts of Apulia,” pointed out Aldo Patruno, Director of the Department of Tourism, Cultural Economy and Territorial Valorisation of the Apulia Region.

Stone Landscape Festival unites within it numerous actors and different fields of research on the most authentic identity of landscapes and their respective communities, promoting not only a critical reflection on the praxis of contemporary architectural design in stone, but also grasping its cultural, economic and social aspects.
