Home Sweet Home – exploring living spaces, exhibition curated by Alessandra Pioselli, Davide Quadrio, Paolo Mele and Claudio Zecchi, reaches its third and last installation with the entry of new artists such as Patrick Tuttofuoco, Céline Condorelli, Tzubasa Kato and a project like Harebel.
The exhibition, which will run until the 1st of July, was the occasion to experiment a modality of working and elaborate, over the course of an entire year, a complex and articulated reflection on the theme of inhabiting, starting from the home as a narrative expedient.
Through the three different installations that have alternated over time, the exhibition, which inaugurated in July 2021, has been conceived as research in-progress which passed through constant redefinition over time, becoming thus a space for meeting, surprise and change as well as a place for dialectics and discoveries.
The first two installations tried to link Ramdom’s previous experience with Lastation starting from the work of Gianni D’Urso who gives the title to the entire exhibition. The third tries to re-define the boundaries of the new home – KORA- Contemporary Arts Center a space co-inhabited with Muta, PazLab and Doc Servizi – trying to raise questions about the institutional dimension and at the same time shift attention to those works that relate to the territory by putting participatory practices and relationships to the center of their investigation.
This is the case of Black Snake by artist Tsubasa Kato, of Tools for Imagination by Céline Condorelli and of Calypso and Laelia by Patrick Tuttofuoco.
Through a collective performance, Kato tells how everyone’s effort is necessary to reach a common goal. The size and heaviness of the object seen in the video therefore reveal the physical limits of any person who tries to move it alone.
Tools for Imagination, a work awarded in 2020 with the 8th Edition of the Italian Council and presented for the first time in its entirety at KORA, is a wide-ranging and articulated reflection on the subject of free time and its evolution in the midst of very precise phenomena that manifested in different historical moments: industrialization, urbanization, the labor revolution, the advent of mass society.
The final work, which is part of the MACRO collection (Rome), is configured as a playground, and a large cumulative installation consisting of several elements: a carpet (Left out in the Rain) and seating (Spatial Composition 13), a display (rocks entitled A Lot for a Little), and a film (After Work) made with artist and film maker Ben River and poet Jay Bernard.
The film in particular documents the invisible labor behind the production of these works, from the blacksmith to the quarry from which the boulders for the playground are extracted, in order to gather all the material and collective work behind the work itself.
The work by Patrick Tuttofuoco, two masks made of ceramic similar to petals, stare at the spectator from the top of a rough metal support activating an emotional relationship with the public.
The exhibition finally finds its specific connotation in hosting, as Alessandra Pioselli state “spaces, projects and artists’ residencies narrated in the exhibition through documentation materials and works represent a selection of experiences located in Southern Italy, the Atlantic area and the Mediterranean”. Experience that, still state Pioselli, “support practices that are strictly connected with the territorial contexts in which they were initiated”.
This is the case of Harabel, a space that focuses on the promotion of contemporary art and which has established the largest open archive of artists in Albania.
Home Sweet Home is the first of a series of exhibitions that will continue to reflect on the theme of hinabiting in the next few years, intercepting different sizes and latitudes: the village first and the Mediterranean later.
