Francesco Bartoli (Velletri -RM 1978) visual artist and filmmaker, in 2004 he graduated at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan, where he attended the courses of the conceptual artist Luciano Fabro. Bartoli is sensitive to the history of art materials and is attentive to the problems of identity, the relationship between the individual, society and the surrounding environment. His artistic research leads him to merge drawing with other artistic disciplines such as frottage (direct printing on paper), video, animation and performance. In his videos, documentary, cinema and video art merge into a versatile narrative syntax through which he investigates the dynamics of contact, distance and boundary.
During the 14 years spent in Spain, Scotland, Colombia and England, he developed many interdisciplinary projects among which it is worth mentioning the collaboration with the National Museum of Sculpture in Valladolid (Spain) and the Museum of Roman Art in Mérida (Spain) for the installation – 16mm. color film “Una Forma in Comune” and the participation in the project of the 54th Venice Biennale “Padiglione Italia nel Mondo” selected by the Italian Cultural Institute of Madrid (Spain).
Among the recognitions to be mentioned are the Award for Contemporary Art granted in 2010 by the Spanish Ministry of Culture for the artist’s book “El Escondite”, the exhibition/residence in Colombia in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute of Bogota and the selections at the international documentary and photography festivals PhotoEspaña 2010 and Documenta Madrid 2011.
He is also director and producer of the project In Search For Nothing (2016), a docufilm born from a video art workshop with unaccompanied minors. Since 2016 Francesco Bartoli collaborates as visual artist and external professor with Farm
