FLATFORM. CONCERT FOR FILMS AND WORKS
The artist in conversation with the curators.

14 of July 2026 – Time 5PM (CET)| Live streaming

Following the opening of the exhibition Flatform. Concert for Films and Works, produced by Ramdom in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute in Shanghai and curated by Francesco D’Arelli, Paolo Mele, and Claudio Zecchi, an online event open to the international public is taking place. The decision to hold the event online stems from a desire to make it accessible without geographical or capacity limitations, allowing anyone to participate in the listening experience and discussion.

The exhibition, winner of the 13th edition of the Italian Council (2024), is organized by the PSA-Power Station of Art in Shanghai, the first State-run museum dedicated to contemporary art in mainland China and one of the country’s most important museums.

Flatform. Concert for Films and Works is Flatform’s first major retrospective exhibition in China. The exhibition traces over twenty years of artistic research at the intersection of cinema and the visual arts, creating a composition in which images, sounds, and narratives intertwine like the movements of a concert. Each of the work is in dialogue with the others within a unified whole, in which landscape, portraiture, and the representation of reality are continually redefined and directed toward new expressive possibilities.

Active since 2006 and based in Milan, Flatform has presented its work at major international institutions, including the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, the Wexner Center for the Arts in Columbus, MAXXI in Rome, Fondazione Prada in Milan, EMPAC in Troy, Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo in Turin, the EYE Filmmuseum in Amsterdam, Argos in Brussels, Palazzo Grassi in Venice, MSU in Zagreb, and Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin. Their films have received awards at numerous international festivals, and two works were nominated for Academy Awards in 2016 and 2021.

The online event will feature Flatform alongside curators Paolo Mele and Claudio Zecchi, who will guide the audience through a discussion focused on the exhibition, the research processes, and the artist’s practice. The event will also include a preview of a video tour of the exhibition filmed at the PSA-Power Station of Art in Shanghai, offering participants the opportunity to take a virtual tour of the exhibition and explore its content and layout in greater depth.

The event also represents a valuable opportunity to highlight the international network that contributed to the project’s realization. Alongside Ramdom and the Italian Cultural Institute in Shanghai, the partners include INTERSECCIÓN – A Coruña International Film Festival, an international festival dedicated to new forms of moving images and contemporary film research, Light Cone, a historic French organization dedicated to the distribution, promotion, and preservation of experimental cinema worldwide; and MONUMENTUM, an international non-profit platform dedicated to time-based art, based in Berlin and active since 2010, which has realized over 250 projects worldwide, involving nearly 700 artists and developing a significant collection and archive dedicated to performance art.

These institutions are international leaders in audiovisual experimentation and share the project’s focus on artistic practices that explore the potential of the moving image.

Free participation upon registration.
