Exchange in Castrignano de’ Greci, Homesession

Meritxell Cañas is the artist selected to receive the Exchange grant in Castrignano de’ Greci (Italy), organised by Homessession, for a six-week artist residency at KORA – Centro del Contemporaneo.

The jury selected Meritxell Cañas’s project for the interest aroused by her artistic research, which explores the tensions between the virtual and the real worlds, identifying significant points of contact with one of the lines of research developed by Ramdom.

A graduate in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona, Meritxell Cañas’s artistic practice explores the translation between the digital and physical worlds, questioning how the virtual can acquire a physical form without losing its essence. Transferring these images into physical matter is a way of testing their limits: allowing the pixel to transform into a crack, the precision of the code to confront the vulnerability of the manual process, so that the virtual takes on qualities not previously attributed to it. It is not a question of imitating the digital, but of opening a dialogue between two languages that influence one another. My work thus occupies a hybrid territory, where the virtual takes physical form and matter learns to speak in digital terms.
