After the exhibitions of Gagliano del Capo (2020), Shanghai (Moderna Art Base, 2021) and Bologna (Gallleriapiù, 2021), rs548049170_1_69869_TT (The Other Shapes of Me) by Emilio Vavarella comes to a new exhibition stage.
It does so in the hybrid context of MakerArt, the section of Maker Faire Rome entirely dedicated to the relationship between art and technology and focused on the theme of Artificial Intelligence by Valentino Catricalà.
The project is presented for this edition in its complexity: in addition to the Jacquard machine, the fabric and the film Genesis (The Other Shapes of Me), medium-sized tapestries Sections (The Other Shapes of Me) and small-sized tapestries Samples will be exhibited (The OtherShapes of Me).
The project is accompanied by the book “rs548049170_1_69869_TT” edited by Paolo Mele, EmilioVavarella and Claudio Zecchi and published by MOUSSE publishing.
rs548049170_1_69869_TT (The Other Shapes of Me) is a large installation based on the conversion of Emilio Vavarella’s genetic code into fabric. The weaving process is carried out by the artist’s mother through one of the first modern computational machines: the nineteenth century Jacquard loom. The title of the work refers to the first line of text resulting from the genotyping of the artist’s DNA.
This project advances Vavarella’s research on the origins of binary technology and its most recent applications: from weaving to programming, algorithms, software, automation processes, up to the complete digitalization of a human being.
rs548049170_1_69869_TT (The Other Shapes of Me) is a project by Emilio Vavarella curated and produced by Ramdom as part of the 6th Edition of the Italian Council (2019), a program for the promotion of Italian contemporary art in the world of the General Direction for Contemporary Creativity of the Ministry of Culture.
