With his work Verderame, Roberto Memoli (Modugno, 1989) creates a 7-hour sound installation in Piazza San Rocco (Gagliano del Capo, 21 December, from 5:00 pm to 00:00 am) and a video installation at Lastation.
The project recalls the custom of the fire lit in the central square of Gagliano del Capo on the day of the winter solstice. While the auspicious ritual has been interrupted since the nineties, the Apulian olive trees are affected by a disease that causes their rapid drying out and changes the landscape, the economy and the identity of the place.
The intention is to mark this moment of transition, this passage to a new season that brings with it a common sense of “loss” – highly present in the stories of the people of the village – and an inevitable “change of form”.
